Jyojyoushi by L'Arc~en~Ciel
2005 (Awake) || 5:10 || 7.09 MB
Jyojyoushi, Jojoushi, Lyrical Poem, whatever you want to call it. This song is elegant and refreshing, in the same sense as springtime. Maybe the PV influenced my view of it, but I think of white doves, flowers, windows, curtains, clouds, etc, when I hear it. Maybe even a beach! (except I'm not very fond of beaches; omgosh the fear of drowning, clowns, and seagulls out to peck my eyes and steal my food!). Hyde's voice is soothing, and in combination with the instrumentals, so relaxing he makes you feel as if you're on vacation even if you're not. And don't we wish we always really were on vacation ;__;
Spirit Dreams Inside by L'Arc~en~Ciel
2003 (Smile) || 3:47 || 5.19 MB
This song was used as the ending theme for the movie, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Yes, even in the non-Japanese versions! Gogogo Laruku, break into the American market and become even more ridiculously wealthy! With that said, this song is entirely in English. Not bad, Hyde, not bad, though your accent sounds like an awkward combination of Engrish and British. The instruments are so excellent in this song, however, you won't be bothered by any accent; the bass and drums especially are a trip. And the lyrics are filled with vivid images. Just rike BIBID CARARS. It's overall a solid rock track.
Spirit Dreams Inside ~ Another Dream by L'Arc~en~Ciel
2001 (Spirit Dreams Inside) || 3:44 || 5.13 MB
This is the Japanese version of Spirit Dreams Inside, and it was the version featured as its own single as well. Solely for the reason it's Japanese, and imo Hyde's voice sounds better when singing Japanese, I prefer this version to the English. Aside from the change in language, though, everything's the same. The only English left is in one of the best parts, "Why am I here? Why am I lost?" I love that part 8]
Love Flies by L'Arc~en~Ciel
2000 (Real) || 4:52 || 4.46 MB
Lots of emphasis on the guitar in this one. Listening to this song, I imagine steadily flashing lights, the dark ocean, and a lighthouse. (With all the images I see in music, I could write stories! What a pleasantry!) I read on centigrade-j that Hyde wrote these lyrics for L'Arc~en~Ciel's fans. So feel delighted, this song is dedicated to you! YES YOU, CHARLES.
All Year Around Falling in Love by L'Arc~en~Ciel
2000 (Real) || 5:33 || 5.09 MB
A mellow song, it gives you a spaced-out, floating feeling. Not to imply that it's slow, though. The lyrics follow a pattern of going through each of the seasons so if you want to practice your Japanese translating abilities, it's a simple task here. And a fine wintry day. Overall relaxing, careless, free, and... there's really no other way I can describe the way it makes you feel, but that you're floating in space, water, jelly beans, whatever.
Forbidden Lover by L'Arc~en~Ciel
1999 (Ark) || 6:01 || 5.50 MB
A classic. If you don't have this song yet, I don't even need to give you a reason to download it. It's definitely one of Laruku's best. A haunting melody with painful lyrics in combination with Hyde's desperate vocal delivery, this song is filled with emotion, passion, and finally, disappointment. Hopeless and beautiful, gogogo download it.
I'm So Happy by L'Arc~en~Ciel
1996 (Kaze ni Kienaide) || 4:40 || 4.27 MB
I remember being addicted to this song for quite some time. Despite the title, it sounds much more desperate and painful than happy, with the exception of the psychedelic chorus. Best part? Hyde's repeatedly screaming "I love you." Sadly, my image of this song has been tainted since I saw Carnival of True 1996; now, every time I hear this, I think of Hyde in a Santa Claus outfit D8

Countdown (US) by Hyde
2005 (Countdown) || 4:09 || 5.72 MB
This is Countdown, but in English! Featured as the b-side of the Countdown single. When I first heard this single, I actually debated which version I preferred. Regardless, both versions of this song are delights, and Hyde's English is crazy good here. Best part is the chorus, where everything speeds up and explodes. That's just like fighter jets! (Geez, Hyde, first you write the love & peace lyrics of Awake, and then your first Faith solo single is about stealth fighters?! What a sly devil.)
Prayer by Hyde
2003 (666) || 5:12 || 4.76 MB
A slow, hard rock song with super badass lyrics. Hyde's talking about shooting himself! The chorus is loaded with raspy singing, talking about pistols, taking aim, etc. A haunting melody, it makes me think of darkness and alleyways. However, despite all these good points, I must say, this isn't a song I listen to frequently; it just doesn't deliver. Maybe it needs more variety? Maybe I have something against prayers, religious matters, the fact that Hyde says God is on his side? It's a good song if you're feeling angry at the world.
Oasis by Hyde
2002 (Roentgen) || 4:35 || 4.20 MB
After Shallow Sleep, this is my second favorite track from Roentgen. As implied by the title (and the lyrics), this song has a hypnotizing feel. Hyde's voice is calm and cool, as if he were hanging out in jazz lounge or sleazy bar, throwing a box of matches up and down from his hand while his hat is tipped sideways. The crazy wild instruments nearly give you the illusion that you're wandering through the desert. My favorite line: "My fever's getting HIGH~" Hyde did a great job with this one.
