moon child
Set in the future in the segregated asian city Mallepa, Moon Child is about mafia gang wars and a group of friends slowly falling apart. After his mentor and only friend dies, Kei, a hotass vampire, is left alone. Many years pass, and Kei eventually reaches the brink of death as he lays (all hot and sweaty) in an alleyway, starving and burning up in the sun. However, he then meets a young boy by the name of Sho, who rescues him from the light and drags him back to the secret hideout abandoned factory place for little delinquent boys. There, Kei repays the favor when he saves Sho and his brothers from an evil angry businessman. After that, Kei and Sho live together side by side as crime partners in the mafia, joined by Sho's brothers, and a Taiwanese man called Son (played by Wang Lee Hom --- yay I spelled his name right FOR ONCE) and his mute sister. Together , these friends try to survive in this poor anti-Japanese ghetto future city. However, as time passes and things get more complicated (and a lot of people die), the bonds between these friends begin to break apart.There, that's a basic outline, hopefully not too spoilerific. I didn't feel like whipping out my English class mind (I'm so sick of writing essays), but maybe I'll write a smarter review of it later.
kei
Kei is one of the most essential characters to the story; he's probably second only to Gackt, as far as importance goes. He's an angsty sexillious vampire. He BITES people. And SUCKS THEIR BLOOD. SOOO hott. He just sexes people up and then eats them. Slaps their asses and then bites their necks. And dances around the room and throws them on the floor and then totally rapes them. OMG WHOA SO HOT 8D Actually, forget the slapping asses part. Anyway, Kei is pretty badass. Transformed into a vampire by Luka, a man who later became his friend and mentor, Kei has the gift of eternal life and youth. However, he considers it to be a curse rather than a gift; he hates the thought of drinking blood enough that he would starve himself for days. Pretty overdone personality for a vampire character, isn't it? Well, either way, Hyde plays the role well. Or maybe I'm just biased xD (actually, no, I'm really being honest here.)

Gackt is a Japanese rockstar. Or popstar. Whatever. Formerly part of the visual kei band Malice Mizer, he went solo in 2000 and since then, has become frighteningly popular (especially among girls). He likes exercise (the crotch splitter in particular), nudity, sex, and Hyde. He plays the main character of the movie, Sho, and also co-wrote the script/story.
Wang Lee Hom is alsoa popstar famous musical idol. He's Chinese, though, not Japanese (if you can't tell by his name) but was raised in New York City. So he speaks really good English :D In the movie, he plays Son, who is very protective over his mute litte sister and eventually gains a sense of rivalry with Sho.

I can't say the movie was spectacular. Yeah, I'm sorry, I really don't want to be categorized as one of those fangirls who thinks "OMFGOSH! hYdE and gAcKt er sooooo hooottototottt HAWWWT ;_____; I CRIED SO MUCH POOR HAIDO-SAMA!!!!! ;____; dat's ok at least GAKUTOE is there 4 Uz!!! gakky x haido forevah!!!! MOON CHILD NUMBAH 1!!!!1111eleven." I admit it, I got Moon Child because Hyde was in it. And I admit it, Hyde was the one who "saved" this movie for me. I still can't say it's the best movie in the world. From the looks of it, despite the effects and nice fight scenes, it seemed to be produced on a tight budget. I enjoyed the action scenes though, especially considering Hyde and Gackt performed all their own stunts. The soundtrack was good, too. However, the characters just weren't developed enough. Towards the end, things became so rushed, and it was as if the movie attempted to provoke emotions into you which you couldn't feel. I honestly didn't feel much sympathy for any of the characters except for Sho and Kei. Within a short period of time, the movie took a sudden turn for the worse, changing its mood to very... depressing and hopeless. It seems reasonable, considering this takes place in a poor ghetto future city full of racism, but... I don't know. I just didn't feel it. The movie had the right ideas about friendship and loss and all, but... it would've been better if it was longer or more developed. Maybe as a TV series instead?hyde and gackt?
Needless to say, this movie produced many questions about Hyde's and Gackt's sexuality. Actually, not really. Fangirls just like to pair the two together. Honestly, there's very little chance of this couple ever actually happening. Hyde's married. Happily married, probably. And Gackt, that man is just a sex machine for everybody, having become obsessed with Hyde during the filiming of Moon Child. He worships the man. Gackt's probably Hyde's #1 fangirl. But honestly, Hyde's pretty heterosexual and married. And Gackt probably loves lots of people the way he loves Hyde. Or he just has interesting ways of showing his affection. So if this couple is anything, it's a very close friendship. Gackt writes a few words about Hyde in his autobiography. For more of that, check out this entertaining Gackt site. Check out his chapter on love, especially, in which he mentions something about if Hyde was a woman, he'd fall in love with him ;D In the end, I'm sure we all can't resist making fun of Gackt x Hyde at one point, but this relationship really isn't happening and it's not to be taken seriously.

1. - Hyde and Gackt performed all their own stunts.2. - For the movie, Hyde and Gackt co-wrote and co-composed the song, Orenji no Taiyou. It can be found on Gackt's Crescent album. The song was once performed live, but Wang Lee Hom replaced Hyde.
3. - To talk about the movie, Gackt had invited Hyde to dinner one night. It was their first official meeting. Hyde ended up running late by one hour, because he got into a car accident right outside the restaurant.
4. - When offered the role of Kei, Hyde wasn't sure about agreeing to the movie. At first he didn't give Gackt a definite answer, and he even requested that they do a practice run to see how good they look together on camera.
5. - The movie was filmed in Taiwan. Hyde was constantly whining to Gackt about the hot weather.
6. - Hyde often rode around on his little bike scooter thing. When he saw Gackt notice him, he started doing stunts and showing off, but Gackt barely paid attention.
7. - Once Hyde fell asleep on the set, and when he woke up, Gackt's face was right near his. Gackt told Hyde he was tempted to kiss him at that point.
8. - Gackt hosted the radio show All Night Nippon on August 26 2002, and Hyde was the guest.
9. - Hyde came over Gackt's house to read the script together. When Hyde first came in, there was only candlelight (Gackt doesn't like electric lights) and he saw a bunch of red roses waiting for him.
10. - So, they read the script together for 4 hours. Gackt was reading on the computer, but Hyde was reading the paper version. However, there were no electric lights at Gackt's home and he couldn't read it clearly enough. So Hyde used his lighter as a source of light. He wasted a number of cheap lighters that day, since they kept running out, and eventually also burned his thumb. He said it hurt so much he almost cried~
11. - Hyde thinks Gackt's an alien and his car looks like a spaceship.
12. - Gackt lost to Hyde in billiards, marking the first time Gackt ever lost to anybody in a game. They played four games: Hyde won 2, Gackt won 2.
